Enrique Somoza, D.Sc.

Root Authority Press publishes precise, practitioner-focused books on DNS, internet infrastructure, network security, and the operational realities of the engineers who build and run it all. Every title is written by a working practitioner. Meet the authors behind the books.

Enrique Somoza is a practitioner, author, and speaker focused on DNS, internet infrastructure, network security, and the operational realities of running systems at internet scale.

He is the author of two books published in 2026:

  • DNS: The Internet's Control Plane, a comprehensive technical reference covering resolver mechanics, DNSSEC, DNS DDoS defense, encrypted DNS, telemetry, and AI-driven threat detection.
  • Out of the IDE: Because the Next Line of Code Won't Be Yours, a career and leadership guide for engineers stepping into technical leadership.

He has spent more than a decade operating DNS infrastructure at internet scale, including time at Ultra DNS, and now works in product management on internet infrastructure platforms. He holds a Doctor of Science in Cybersecurity.

Speaking Topics

Sessions are practitioner-first, free of vendor pitch, and built for technical audiences who want depth over slogans.

DNS and Internet Infrastructure

  • DNS as the internet's control plane: why it matters more than your network team thinks.
  • DNSSEC in practice: key management, signing strategies, and where teams get it wrong.
  • DNS DDoS defense at scale: telemetry, mitigation patterns, and the real cost of getting it late.
  • Encrypted DNS (DoH, DoT, DoQ): operational tradeoffs and what enterprises actually need to know.
  • AI-driven anomaly detection in DNS traffic.
  • Internal DNS and the modern Zero Trust stack.

Engineering Leadership

  • Out of the IDE: the transition from senior engineer to technical leader.
  • Technical strategy: how to set it, communicate it, and defend it.
  • Hard conversations: feedback, performance, and decisions that don't appear in commit history.
  • The product manager and the principal engineer: making the partnership work.

Career and Practitioner Craft

  • Becoming a published technical author while holding a full-time engineering role.
  • Building authority in a specialty without inflating your title.

Formats

  • Conference keynotes and breakout sessions.
  • Industry panels and fireside chats.
  • Podcast and webinar guest appearances.
  • Corporate workshops and internal tech talks.
  • University lectures and graduate seminars.

Talks can be delivered in person or remote. Each session is tailored to the audience and adapted from primary material in the books.
